The I. Physics Institute of the University of Cologne participated in the nation-wide event “Long Night of Astronomy” (Lange Nacht der Astronomie)

On Saturday, 19 October 2024, a nationwide Astronomy Day took take place under the common motto ‘Long Night of Astronomy’. Research institutions throughout Germany opened their doors to interested people of all ages. The aim was to share the fascination for the starry sky and astronomy and to make people of all ages aware of the wonders of the universe.
The programme was intended to be diverse, activating and exciting: from lectures on current research results, fascinating planetarium programmes and workshops where visitors can operate telescopes themselves. Children could take part in fun activities that taught them the basics of astronomy, while experienced astrophysicists provided in-depth insights into the secrets of the universe.
