Germany is now the new member of SKAO

Prof. Dr. Michael Kramer involved in the membership of Germany in SKAO said that “It has been a long and not always easy road that has led us to this important milestone for the entire radio astronomy community in Germany. This significant moment is thus particularly gratifying for everyone involved and we would like to thank the Minister and the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) for their support.” Minister Stark-Watzinger also highlighted how technology transfer means the SKAO’s impact will be felt beyond astronomy.

SKAO is building the next generation of radio telescopes. In Germany, the data generated by the SKAO will take place at the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA), which is currently being built in Görlitz in Lusatia, as part of the European Data Center.
