PI of Dynaverse, the physicist and computer scientist, Dr. Kai Polsterer, has been appointed the new Scientific Director of the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) since the turn of the year 2025.
A small reminder of the Curriculum of Dr. Kai Polsterer: Since 2013 at HITS, he has since headed the first European research group in the field of Astroinformatics. He develops new methods and tools for processing the exponentially growing amount of data, with a focus on machine learning. With his group, Dr. Polsterer is significantly involved in an ERC Synergy Grant for measuring the universe. In a series of interdisciplinary projects, he is working together with mathematicians and physicists on new approaches for optimizing weather forecasts and cardiological analyses. He was a founding member and board member of the Artificial Intelligence Working Group of the German Physical Society, the IEEE task force on mining complex astronomical data and the International Astroinformatics Association (IAIA), of which he has been president since 2023. Dr. Polsterer is also a member of a multinational working group at the International Space Science Institute (ISSI).
